Tasting note

High robe of cherry color with bright red hues. On the nose, aromas of berries and licorice stand out, perfectly balanced with the spicy notes of thyme, rosemary, cloves and cigar leaves that come from its stay in the barrel. In the mouth it expresses its elegance due to a friendly tannin that provides roundness and freshness. It is a long and broad wine with a very interesting retronasal due to its complexity. Its ideal pairing is with red meat and game.

Store

The elaboration of the wine is done under a rigorous quality control, and in the most traditional way. In this winery, in addition to Imperial, our Real de Asúa wine is produced. See infographic of the Winery.

The cellar is made up of French oak vats of different capacities. This allows the production of each plot of vineyards to be collected and individual monitoring of each terroir.

Barrel aging takes place inside the Eiffel ship built in 1909.

Vineyard

The grapes come from 28 hectares of own vineyards located in Villalba (Rioja Alta), and from selected vineyards in the Briones and Montalvo areas, where the vines have an average age of more than 20 years, to ensure the quality of the wine.

Rioja Alta is the westernmost part of the three sub-regions of Rioja. Its climate is notably influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The soil in Rioja Alta is rich in iron salts, limestone, and clay, along with nutrients deposited in the region by tributaries of the Ebro River. The Rioja Alta area is known for producing fortified wines, with medium alcohol content and high acidity that are suitable for barrel aging, forming the base of most Rioja reds.

Elaboration

Reserve for 24 months in the barrel and 36 months in the bottle before it goes on the market. Selection of the best grapes harvested manually in the Cvne payments in the Rioja Alta. After fermentation, the wine is kept in the vats for a few more days, extending the maceration process until the desired color and structure are obtained. Subsequent fermentation, that is, the passage from malic to lactic acid, is carried out in barrels, producing a refinement of the wine, leaving it at its proper acidity. This wine has been bred in French and American oak barrels before being clarified in the traditional way and bottled. Once in the bottle, it rests in cellars of CVNE wineries under adequate humidity and temperature conditions, completing its aging until the optimum moment of consumption.

Curiosity

The name Cune Imperial was adopted after a special bottling for the English market in a bottle called "Imperial Pint" or "Imperial Pint" (an imperial pint is approximately half a liter).
