TASTING NOTES
- Appearance: Intense cherry colour.
- Nose: Complex with smoky and spicy notes accompanied by black liquorice, ripe red-and-black and balsamic fruits with good intensity.
- Palate: Fleshy and structured. Lively and ripe tannins. Fruity finish and great freshness.
ELABORATION
Varieties: Tempranillo, Graciano.
Aged for 24 months in American oak barrels.
CURIOSITIES
In Marqués de Riscal there were the so-called winemaker's wines within its Historical Reserve, such as Reserva Medoc or XR. The winemaker marked some of his barrels with the word "XR", the barrels with special characteristics that were not found in others. XR was never commercialized, although it was a reference for the cellar master. The custom lasted for nearly a century, from 1869 to 1964.
