Tasting Note:
Reddish color with violet reflections.
Aroma: it has a vegetal touch that brings freshness. The oak is perceived as very integrated in the nose.
Mouth: a great classic from the Ribera del Duero, with body and structure, although it is not lacking in freshness. A wine with great richness offset by its complexity.
Production and Aging:
From some of the oldest vines in La Aguilera with organic certification and some of them pre-phylloxera and over 100 years old. 95% Tempranillo, Garnacha, Bobal, Albillo.
The malolactic fermentation of the entire plot at the same time is carried out in stainless steel tanks and with its own yeasts. After a long maceration, it is transferred to French oak barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and subsequent aging for 35 months.
Curiosities
Eagle's Domain is a winery created by Jorge Monzón and Isabel Rodero in 2010. Jorge began his oenology studies in Bordeaux and continued his professional career at emblematic wineries such as Romanée-Conti Y Vega Sicily until it lands in Arzuaga wineries.
A classic cut Ribera, of great complexity, with a lot of body and good structure and just the right amount of freshness. Some of the oldest vineyards in La Aguilera, with organic certification and some of them pre-phylloxera, form the origin of this wine which, apart from Tempranillo, incorporates in its production a small contribution from other minority red and white varieties that are grown in the same vineyard.
R.Parker:
"2017 was a year of low performance, so I also tried the Reserva 2018, their flagship red wine that wants to be a representation of the town of La Aguilera: fine, serious and elegant. It is 95% Tempranillo with the rest of grapes that are interspersed in its oldest vineyards at an average altitude of 880 meters on limestone, clayey and sandy soils. All the clusters ferment with native yeasts in concrete, where they are trodden on, and the malolactic fermentation was carried out very slowly (11 months ) in oak barrels where the wine matured for a total of 27 months. He has a somewhat shy nose but is very elegant. The wine has been recently bottled, and that can make it a bit closed and subtle, and it clearly improves with air as it sits in the glass. It is still young, and the palate reveals a lot of energy; the flavors are very pure and the wine precise and delineated. The tannins are very fine and provide a chalky texture and an almost salty touch on the finish. It is very much in line with 2016. 15,250 bottles and 101 magnums were produced. I know bottled in February 2021."
