CATA's notes:
Production and Aging:
La Misión comes from hundred-year-old vines planted on farms with mainly sandy soils. After starting the alcoholic fermentation with wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks, the wine finishes fermenting and partly ages in 500-litre French oak barrels; partly in tubs or pipes of 5,000 and 10,000 liters and partly in jars of different capacities made with a percentage of the clay coming from Menade's own farms, a return to the most earthly origin. After a minimum aging period of 8 months, the Misión is bottled and rests for a minimum of two years.
Curiosities:
Menade has been the pioneer winery and the only one of the D.O Rueda to be certified as Organic . We could well say that they have set a trend in the area.
They have been making wine for 35 years from century-old vineyards planted in Pollos , owned by the family, and almost from the beginning they could see that this verdejo presented some peculiarities different from the rest of the strains, the Verdeja It was eight years ago when they acquired the family vineyard and decided to start grafting the entire vineyard of their farms with Verdeja, after a mass selection. The Verdeja presents distinctive morphological features: the grapes are smaller, the clusters are more oval, and it is more resistant to diseases such as botrytis, due to its thick skin. The aromas are the expression of the authentic Verdejo, they present a greater rusticity, but also greater authenticity. analytical parameters reveal higher acidities and more concentrated grapes. The search for authenticity, personality, the experience acquired over the years, the concern and the effort to return the natural spirit to viticulture have been the keys to Menade's philosophy from the beginning.
