In the twelfth century King Alfonso VIII of Castile gives the monks of Silos a quintana de la Ribera located eight leagues from the monastery in exchange for a property in Tordesillas. That place is so valuable for one reason only: its vineyards. It is then that it becomes the cellar of the monks. At first it was known as Arpidio, name of its former owner, but over time the municipality was renamed Quintana del Pidio.

During the sixteenth century the demand for wine in Quintana del Pidio does not stop growing and an entire neighborhood of the population emerges that decides to dedicate itself to winemaking.

After the confiscation of Mendizábal (S.XIX) the monks are forced to leave the monastery, leaving this disconnected from Quintana del Pidio and its wineries. Five decades later, a new community of Benedictine monks from the abbey of Ligugé was established, saving the monastery from its demise.

During the twentieth century Silos does not cease to gain importance as historical and cultural heritage. Visitors increase non-stop, attracted by the cloister and the Gregorian chants of its monks. The link with Quintana del Pidio is also recovered, which begins to gain more and more importance thanks to the opening of new wineries such as Cillar de Silos.

During this last century the Aragon brothers, continuing their legacy, have recovered the old neighborhood of wineries of Quintana del Pidio. By restoring the oldest underground winemaking complex in Spain, they have tried to restore the essence of what it was. This is how Dominio del Pidio was born.
