Garmón Continental is the third and new winery of the García family, which also owns the Mauro wineries in Tudela de Duero and San Román in the D.O. Toro
This family project is based on the vineyard, planted mainly with the Tempranillo / Tinto fino grape, with which it is planned to carry out a controlled production that does not exceed 80,000 bottles per year.
The first wine made in this winery is the 2014 vintage of Garmón, which comes from a selection of vineyards grown in small minifundios of four different municipalities: Baños, Tubilla, La Aguilera and Moradillo. Most are located on the right bank of the Duero, except for Moradillo, which is on the left.
The vineyards are located at high altitudes, between 850 and 1,000 meters. Predominate in them the soils clay-calcareous, that confer nerve, depth and a controlled maturity to its wines.
Regarding the winery building, it is currently under construction, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. It is situated on a 3-hectare estate in the municipality of Olivares, just 15 kilometers from Bodegas Mauro.
With this project, the García family is committed to ancestral viticulture, as it uses old, vigorous vineyards located in areas where the grapes have a slower ripening cycle, so harvesting is also performed later than usual in the zone. All these factors provoke the obtaining of an elegant and juicy red, of imposing and refined fruit expression.
