In 1865 John Grant, born 16.5.1805, acquired the Glenfarclas distillery. The name means translated: valley of green pastures.
Since then, the tradition of whisky distillation has been passed down from generation to generation. Today the distillery is run by George S. Grant in the sixth generation.
The distillery is nestled in a hilly landscape at the foot of the majestic Ben Rinnes mountain. High above, a spring of cold, crystalline water rises from the heart of Ben Rinnes. This spring is fed by slowly melting snow, which seeps through heather and peat to granite. The water, shaped by the landscape created millions of years ago by the first glacial movements, is of unusual purity. This gives it its unique character and makes it an important part of the Glenfarclas Highland Single Malt.
