CURIOSITIES:
In 1997, Michel Chapoutier's pioneering spirit led him to explore the lands of the ancient Australian continent, increasingly known for the high quality of its Shiraz grapes.
This is a story of coincidences, of men passionate about a variety, of convictions, of a work of observation and discovery, in which Michel, without pressure, finds the person, the moment and the land that allows him to be a pioneer rather than a simple follower. Thus came the meeting in 2002 with Ron and Elva Laughton (Jasper Hill vineyards) where they planted a vineyard in their famous Cambric soils of Heathcote and with Rick Kinzbrunner (Gioconda Wines), where they took advantage of the granitic soils of Northeast Victoria.
Already with more than 10 years of experience, Michel finds an exceptional terroir of podzolic soils ideal for Shiraz in the Victorian Pyrenees, where he establishes his vineyards at Domaine Tournon, with two vineyards (Shays Flat Estate and Landsborough Valley Estate).
