Elaboration and Aging
The Garnacha Blanca comes from the estate of San Gregorio Encina, planted in 1980 with clay limestone soils. The Malvasia select it from the payment Las Anchas of 1930 with alluvial, stony and sandy soils. The vine comes from the alluvial and ancient payment of the Lentisco, the stony San Gregorio La Tabla and the Santa Maria estate. With ages between 35 and 40 years. They remain in breeding on their lees, which are removed twice a week, until at 6 or 7 months they decide by tasting them and withdraw the wine again to deposit. None of the wines will perform the second Fermentation, called malolactic, because they seek to preserve that acidity.

History
Contino, the first château of the Rioja was born in 1973 driven by the centuries-old winery CVNE and the owners of the farm of 62 hectares located in the Rioja Alavesa. The history of the property dates back to the 16th century and is housed in the same name. The "contino" was that officer in charge of a guard of a hundred soldiers who guarded "contino" by the royal family from the times of the Catholic Kings. San Gregorio, the patron saint of vineyards, passed through the lands of this same La Rioja farm, and so his figure appears in the Anagram of this winery, and lends its name to some of the plots now planted with vines.

The wine produced in this property, fruity and elegant, is heir to the best Riojan tradition. It is made with an individualized collection system of grapes, coming only from the same vineyards that surround the old manor house and is marked by the provenance of the different plots. The perfect combination of soils, atlantic-mediterranean climate and technical refinement have made Contino more than thirty years after its first anniversary, in a referent both inside and outside Spain.

Vineyard
The 62 hectares of Laserna vineyards in Laguardia are protected by the Cerro de la Mesa and located in a meander of the Ebro River which provides this land with a proper orientation and mesoclima.

The Vinedo descends gently towards the Ebro, in a land of adequate and deep permeability that allows the development of the roots in search of the water stored naturally in the subsoil. It extends in three terraces of limestone sandy soil in the deepest layers and limestone clay in the middle and superficial layers, where the boulders typical of the alluvial terrain abound.

The proximity of the vineyard to the winery allows the newly cut grape to start fermentation in small capacity deposits where the grapes are separated from the different plots, differentiating them according to the specific conditions of the harvest.

Cellar
In Vinedos del Contino they live in perfect harmony, tradition and innovation. Modern wine cellar, with selection table and deposits of reduced size, adapted to the plots and varieties. Deposits of fermentation with reduced capacity collect the production of each plot of the farm in an individualized way and, depending on the characteristics of the grape, it will be elaborated in one form or another.

Drawn from the 16th century keep the wines in the best conditions of temperature and humidity.
