Tasting notes:
- Color: ruby red with attractive medium-high.
- Nose: Amazed by its powerful, notably assembly with memories of his noble upbringing fruitiness: traces of coconut, toffee and suggestive hints of scrubland.
- Palate: powerful, and its passage is developing an affable sense of volume and smoothness that flows into a long finish, in which nerve and freshness with optimum acidity brings an aftertaste with hints of red fruits and under mount again.
Development and Aging
Made mostly from grapes Tempraniillo, but also contains 15% Graciano 5% Maturana, from vineyards in Mendavia (Rioja Baja).
After manual harvesting, the grapes arrived to the winery in perfect condition, being destemmed before passing to stainless steel tanks. The fermentation was carried out at controlled temperature 29-30 ° C with daily pumping and tasting of musts. After further maceration a week, based on sensory analysis, the main criterion of the Baron de Ley elaborations, the optimum balance between good color and structure extraction and the roundness and affability of tannins found.
The wine was aged for 20 months in new American oak barrels and then 24 months in bottle to reach their full potential for consumption. This wine has not been subjected to any kind of filtered or stabilized so it can present natural sediments.
Curiosities
A dream come true, Baron de Ley is a winery conceived and founded in 1985 by a small group of renowned professionals in Rioja, who decide to create a project by then only in the DOCa Rioja; a winery inspired the image and likeness of the "châteaux" of Médoc, bringing together all the conditions that make a wine a work of art. The estate also includes the Benedictine Monastery of the sixteenth century, it is now headquarters of Baron de Ley and ideal for historical and cultural events frame, completing the complex with the construction of the winery in the second half of the 80s.
