Tasting Note
- View: intense yellow, golden flashes.
- Nose: Aromas of ripe mango, lychees, lactic background, cashew nuts, hints of butter.
- Mouth: the same aromas as on the nose, some nuts, butter, very mineral, tasty, salty, sweet at the same time, full of nuances and balanced at the same time.
Elaboration:
With a
artisan elaboration , Barco del Corneta means a commitment to rescue
the essence of verdejo , respecting the identity of the variety, the soil and the climate. Barco del Corneta is protected by the Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León. It is made of silica sand and pebbles, with a layer of clay and limestone in its deepest layers.
The harvest is manual, the grapes are collected in boxes of a maximum of 10 kg and a double selection is made in the field and in the winery. Once the clusters are pressed with the stalk, the must ferments in barrels with wild yeasts. After,
It is aged for eight months with its lees in French oak barrels of 300, 500 and 600 liters for 9 months. After a very soft clarification and filtering to respect the wine,
It remains for a few months rounding off in the bottle before going to market.
Curiosities: The small farm has a Castilian manor house, where the old winery was located; a corral; an area with stables, chicken coops and a tool room –which today is the production area-; as well as a wine press - where the tasting room is now located - and two underground cellars that continue to fulfill the same function as at the beginning of the 19th century, they are the aging room and the bottle rack.
The subsoil of La Seca is full of subterranean galleries that were dug by hand in limestone. Many of them have sunk or covered up and it is hardly possible to find the zarceras, but fortunately there are still dozens of underground cellars more than 10 meters from the asphalt, as is the case of Barco del Corneta.
