In the last years of the 50s, Moet & Chandon, the LVMH group, Latin America sent its Chief Winemaker, Renaud Poirier, to investigate the potential of the region to produce wines of international quality. After touring the area, Poirier visited Luján de Cuyo, in the province of Mendoza. Very impressed by the conditions of the region and the presence of unique high elevation vineyards, Poirier and Moët & Chandon decided to launch its first vineyards outside France. After several decades of experience in wine production Foaming in 1999 Moët Hennessy Wine Estates and Bodegas Chandon Argentina inaugurated the Terrazas de los Andes winery, an initiative for the development of still wine varietals to create from the emblematic high-elevation vineyards, fed by snowmelt from the Andes in Mendoza. Terrazas de los Andes was launched after the restoration of an old Spanish style winery, founded in 1898 by Sotero Arizu, one of the pioneers of the wine industry in Argentina.
