On the outskirts of the town of Bellmunt del Priorat, on the banks of the river Siurana, is the farmhouse popularly known as the Casa Gran. A building with three hundred years of history in which formerly resided the Carthusian monks of the nearby monastery of Scala Dei, the monastic order that already in the twelfth century introduced viticulture in a region that is today one of the most recognized producing regions in the world. The estates surrounding the Casa Gran, which witnessed the strict vow of silence of the Carthusian monks, are where GR-174, Cruor and Gran Cruor, three modern and elegant reds, were born.

Casa gran del siurana

Casa Gran del Siurana cultivates its vines on two estates: La Casa Gran and La Fredat. In these territories they plant and care for each variety (Garnatxa, Samsó, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, etc.) to produce quality wines under the Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin.
The origins go back to the 12th century, when the monks of the Carthusian monastery of Scala Dei began to cultivate the vine in the region of El Priorat, a small wine-growing region that already has 102 wineries that work the vine in the 1800 hectares of vineyards that are distributed by this mountainous zone. In the year 2000, Casa Gran del Siurana was created to create high expression wines taking care of each of the processes, from the moment the vine is cultivated to the ageing process. The winegrowers choose the most favourable plantations, collect the grapes meticulously and elaborate and raise the wines taking care of every detail. The result is fresh, elegant and modern red wines, such as GR-174, Cruor and Gran Cruor, wines that are transported to Priorat in every drink.
