Bodegas J. Belmonte is daughter of the bullfighting world. Created by a right-handed man, Israel Lancho; a sword boy, David Benegas, and Luis Merinoc as third partner. Its own name is a tribute to Juan Belmonte, the torero and founding father of modern bullfighting, called the "Belmontina Revolution".
The winery is located in Ribera del Duero, in Gumiel de Mercado and Roa de Duero (both in the province of Burgos). They have 40 hectares of vineyards, between 60 and 100 years old, situated at an altitude of 900 metres. The harvesting and production of the wines is taken care of down to the last detail: choosing the optimum day for grape harvesting, transporting them in boxes and selecting them on the table. Fermentation is also carried out in stainless steel tanks of up to 5,000 litres, aged in French oak barrels for the wines that need it and finally rounded off in the bottle. This process seeks to endow the wine with personality and character, such as that which identified the bullfighter of the same name; the winery itself describes it as "a round and balanced wine". The grape variety used is Tinto Fino, also known as Tempranillo in other areas of the peninsula, this variety is classified as a noble grape of the DO. Ribera del Duero. It gives its wines a high quality, with great aromatic power and prolonged ageing. Below, we present their wines of different characteristics.
