Luis Cañas Wineries is a family-owned winery that dates back to 1928 although the family has been in the winegrowing and winemaking business for more than two centuries. However, it was in 1970 that LUIS CAÑAS began marketing their young wines. It was from this time on that sales increased and the seeds of what is nowadays one of the leading wineries of the Rioja Alavesa Region were sown.

1989 was another milestone in the transformation of the winery when Juan Luis Cañas, Luis Cañas' only son, took over. At 33 years of age, he brought a new atmosphere to the winery and began making new wines, thus strengthening the Crianza wines more and more while beginning to sketch out what would become the new winery.

LUIS CAÑAS WINERIES TODAY:
In 1994, we opened up a new winery equipped with the best winemaking systems. The winery mainly makes the highest quality Crianza and Reserva wines. The new winery was complemented with subsequent expansions such as another winemaking area that began with the 1998 harvest and a new cask cellar in 1999 where 2,000 new casks are stored totaling 4,300 casks. In 1999, the social facilities were inaugurated.

The result are quality wines that are contrasted and backed by their continually increasing market share and faithful clientele, as well as for their prestigious national and international awards and mentions in the most important tastings and contests in the world.
